As an internationally recognized symbol for pharmacy, the Bowl of Hygeia is one of the profession's most prestigious awards, recognizing pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities.
The award is presented annually in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Distict of Columbia.

- Used on a coin minted for the Parisian Society of Pharmacy in 1796
- Bestowed as an award for the first time in 1958
